I finally bought Half-Life 2! I played HL2 for the first time last month at CES and I was blown away - this game is awesome!! What really convinced me to buy it was a mod for this game called GoldenEye Source. This mod is simply amazing! It uses Half-Life 2’s rendering and physics engine, Source, along with updated textures to play Nintendo 64’s GoldenEye 007! They took old single player and mutilplayer maps and made them prettier along with added new rooms and tunnels. It is the reason that I bought the Half-Life 2 DVD.

What’s This All About?!

Half Life 2 Holiday 2006 Collection ships with six games, but you actually get seven:

  • Counter-Strike: Source
  • Half-Life: Source
  • Half-Life Deathmatch: Source
  • Half-Life 2
  • Half-Life 2 Deathmatch
  • Half-Life 2: Episode One
  • Half-Life 2: Lost Coast

All of the games with the suffix “: Source” are older games that have been updated using the Source rendering and physics engine. They are much improved! Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is a new game that you get as a free download. Here is more from the Half-Life 2: Lost Coast page on the Steam website:

Originally planned as a section of the Highway 17 chapter of Half-Life 2, Lost Coast is a playable technology showcase that introduces High Dynamic Range lighting to the Source engine. Upon its release, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast will be available free of charge to all owners of Half-Life 2.

I haven’t played the game yet, I decided to start at the beginning and play all the way through: Starting with Half-Life!

This is definitely a game that I am recommending to everyone! You can download it right now from Steam, but I don’t recommend that: You don’t get discs! What happens if your computer crashes, you do a fresh install or get a new computer?!Instead, head over to your local computer store/multimedia outlet and get a copy of the DVD (I actually had trouble finding this DVD in stores, so I recommend you buy it off of Amazon).
