I just wanted to let you all know that I’m still here: I just finished my first online class at the University Of Phoenix. Between writting a research paper and it being our busy season at work, I have been pretty swamped! In case you were wondering, I’m working toward the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology/Information System Security degree - I’ve only seen GenEd classes so far, but I am really looking forward to my core classes!
That being said, I hope to resume posting more great XP Tips and Tricks soon!

How is that Phoenix School?
Yes, but is it a reputable school. You see it adverted constantly on the Interwebs. Is it actually respected by people in the industry?
I’ve read articles on how employers view online schools vs brick-and-mortar schools and it really depends on the individual - but it seems as though online schools still don’t have people’s full respect yet…
Seems like you are pushing in every direction: your job, university, blog…I wonder how you have the time for all that.
Don’t forget that I have a wife & kids too!
Yeah, some days it seems as though I’m going in ten directions at once….
Planning to take up some post grad distance learning course myself.
It’s been a while since my last visit. Hope I can still drop by regularly like before.
No more Japanese vids?
Hi Saman,
I took a degree part time which I finished last year, it was well worth it, work your ass off, it will be well worth it in the end.
Interested to hear you are taking a degree part time / online, how are those courses delivered?
I ask as I am employed at a University working with moodle.org, a PHP application which can be used to deliver online courses.
Jez
It’s mainly a bulletin board system where “discussions” are posed. There is a ton of reading and (both them and individual) research papers & presentations.
There is so much stuff coming out regards distance learning… it’s only going to get better…
Call me. We have a gig in Denver I need some help with. 214-333-1813.
Congrats on finishing the class. Online classes are not my favorite but definitely make school easier to find time for.
Saman,
How do you like taking an online college class? I’ve done both offline and online and I found there is a HUGE difference. You definitely have to be more proactive when taking a net class
See above,
Yeah, you really have tot be diligent with classes, but I guess that’s true of the brick-and-mortar schools too…
Yeah, definitely both require a bit of diligence.
Being diligent on a course is easy when you are single… when you have a wife and kids its a lot tougher, I think thats often the hardest part for someone in your situation doing a course like this…
I’ve never tried online classes.
hi saman, congrats on the class. I’ve got a friend who goes there, he likes it but says it’s extremely expensive. They just opened a campus here in Raleigh…
Where you at yo?.. its been awhile
Hi Saman, I hope you’re doing well there my friend, especially when you have to juggle with all the things you are doing now. Good luck!
glad you’re still here!
Well, get with it brother…
Best of luck with the classes, sounds like an exciting and rewarding course of study!
This is sort of off topic, but I was noticing that your Alexa rank is taking a beating since you have cut back on your posting.
I am just wondering how important you think Alexa and Technorati ranks really are? I am becoming more convinced that they both are not great traffic generators, and that there are better ways to generate traffic.
I have experimented with both Alexa and Technorati, and know for a fact that if you change the frequency of your posting, or your backlinks get old…then your ranking goes sour.
This is unfortunate, because it has nothing to do with the quality of the blog, but is a measure of consistent posting, or a backlink strategy that can be gamed. I see no evidence that Technorti provides any significant traffic. It only gives you some bragging rights. Neither one provides a blogger much, unless you are trying to do paid posts or get into some of the PPC programs.
Give us you thoughts on this Saman.
Well DIGITALNOMAD have you ever noticed that most of the internal links in this blog are actually redirected through alexa…..
Thats one reason for the high rank I think
Tell me more. Is that done via the title tags, or can you give an example. And then the question is if it is worth the trouble? If itcreatea a nice Alexa rank with no true traffic count, or worse a distorted view of your traffic, what is the point. Just more bragging rights?
Since Saman is on sabbatical, we can have our own comment exchange.
Thanks.
I used to have Alexia redirects on all links, but removed them a month or two ago because of Google. I wanted all of the SEO benefits, not Alexia - but that might explain the drop in Alexia rank….
good thing you removed those alexa’s before the toolbar update!
All I can say is best of luck!
good luck with your school things. and ya give out some XP tips. maybe few tips how we can make it run more smoothly.
