Bla.st
There is a new advertising service on the net, which I just learned about throuh John Chow’s review, called bla.st - the “.st” is the the domain name (just like .com). Basically, you can create your own visual card and display in in their directory under as many categories as you wish. The service is free - but you can pay a daily fee wish will bump you to the top (all cards a listed by price and the free ones at the bottom).
All of the cards a show in thumbnail view - except for the top card (the person who’s paid the most). You can see mine there, right next to John Chow’s. I’m not paying for mine - yet. We’ll see if it generates any hits.
There is a full dashboard that shows all of the details for your card, including page impressions, visits and more! Click the image for a larger view.
They offer an incentive to get the word out:
As a way to say ‘thanks for your effort’ we’re offering anyone the following deal: link to bla.st and we’ll add 1c/day for a year to your card OR Write a blog entry or review (positive or negative) about bla.st and we’ll add 2c/day to your card.
Note, only 1 upgrade per card. Also your review or link must be on the same site your card links to.
It’s a free two cent upgrade for getting the word out! Free advertising!!
With so much advertising, it would be dumb not to take advantage!

Similar to his site (not a copycat!) but different at the same time (and I think, a little more useful) I created http://www.egaroo.com. It’s based solely in banners. My personal and humble project in creating a 100% free visual directory of interesting websites. I recopilate my favorites sites, create a banner, identify and upload them… yeah, lots of work, but I love it!
Interesting concept…. I’ll have to look into it!
