Twitter Window Command Line Client

By now, just about everyone knows about the Twitter Command Line Client for Linux. Ever since I started using it, I fell in love and I’ve been looking for something similar for Windows. Well, I’ve finally found it: The Twitter CLI is a simple tool that lets you post updates to Twitter from the Windows Command Line or, my favorite, the Run dialog.

Download

The small file is located at Phalacee.com.

Installation

  1. Extract the contents of the Twitter CLI.zip file into your Windows folder, which is located at:
    C:\Windows
  2. Open the Twitter.bat file in Notepad (right-click, then choose Edit) and enter your Twitter user name and password in the appropriate fields:
    set username=YourTwitterUserName
    set password=YourTwitterPassword
  3. Save the file and close Notepad.

Update Twitter Via Command Line

Now you are able to Tweet via your Windows Command Line:

  1. Hit the Windows Key+R
  2. Type in the following:
    twitter ""
Enter your status between the quotes.
  3. Hit OK or the Enter on your keyboard.

That’s all there is to it! If you want your update to read: I’m eating over my keyboard and making a mess! You would enter:
twitter "I'm eating over my keyboard and making a mess!"

Notes

  • The message must be less than 140 characters, which is Twitter’s limit.
  • It’s not necessary to use quotation marks in your update but will be needed if you’re inputting a URL in your message:
twitter "I just added a great picture to Flickr http://tinyurl.com/6r95ur"

Integration With Facebook

You can have this Twitter Window Command Line Client update your Facebook status by using the TwitterSync Facebook application (technically, the CLI client is still updating Twitter. The TwitterSync app just polls your Twitter feed and updates your status). I use it on my Facebook profile.

I prefer this application over Twitter’s Facebook app because it doesn’t add the prefix of: “is twittering:”, though you can add any prefix, if you wish. Also, because you can update Twitter via SMS, you can update your Facebook status via text message! Or, if you don’t want to, TwitterSync wont update if the tweet has a specific prefix (that you set). So, if you sent something like “from cellphone: I hate traffic!!”, then it wouldn’t update your Facebook status!

  • Would You Install A iPhone Plugin For Your Blog?

Written by Saman Sadeghi on July 24, 2007 and has been viewed 1,486 views times. 7 Comments »

The Apple iPhoneI just StumbledUpon an interesting WordPress plugin: iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme. This plugin will automatically detect the Apple iPhone User Agent reformats your blog’s content for optimized viewing with a special theme only to iPhone visitors (man, that was a mouthful!), all other browsers will view your WordPress blog with your current theme.

In the past, I have installed plugins for the Wii and PSP browsers but ultimately removed them - that was during my 41-plugins-installed days. My question is this: Would you/should you install this plugin? We all know that the iPhone’s Safari browser is a true browser, it renders the web as it should be - but should we make content easier to read on a 320 x 480 screen?

    Enter iPhoney

Speaking of the iPhone, I found this interesting application called iPhoney. Here is the description from the site:

iPhoney gives you a pixel-accurate web browsing environment—powered by Safari—that you can use when developing web sites for iPhone. It’s the perfect 320 by 480-pixel canvas for your iPhone development. And it’s free.
iPhoney is not an iPhone simulator but instead is designed for web developers who want to create 320 by 480 (or 480 by 320) websites for use with iPhone. It gives you a canvas on which to test the visual quality of your designs. If you have questions about iPhoney, visit our issue tracker on SourceForge, as our support team doesn’t provide technical support for iPhoney.

Unfortunately, it’s a Mac only application and it wont show you load times but I thought it was very interesting! Again, would you install this plugin in the off chance someone will access your site from the iPhone?

Well, that didn’t take long: Within hours of it’s release, I was able to find two different sites where the iPhone was taken apart - and this is in addition to the iPhone eBay auctions that Mr. Gary Lee covered!

    Think Secret

For those who don’t know, Think Secret is the best Apple rumor site on the net, mainly because they are almost always right!

Unfortunately, they broke the logic board when trying to take the iPhone apart! Click the below image to check out their gallery.

    iFix It

iFix It had a live, stream of the disassembly, which I thought was really cool! I mirrored the page as it looked like at 11:45pm last night. Click the below image to see the mirror and click here to see their live site.

    Thoughts

I expected to see the eBay options but I didn’t expect this! Those poor iPhones - and what about the geeks that could of had them! Some where out there, there are millions of geeks crying after they saw these pictures! I must say that I was kind of impressed by the $1,000,000 iPhone eBay Auction!

Finally, the 0.5 releases are available for all to enjoy! You can read more about Lighting & Sunbird in my review.

These releases have arrived about two months after their scheduled release date, but they were worth the wait - and they’re a huge step closer to the 1.0 release, which is scheduled for the first half of 2008.

Notable improvements of this release are:

    • Much more polished user interface in the calendar views
    • Event invitations can be sent and received via iMIP/iTIP (Lightning only)
    • Working hours are back
    • Automatic migration of data in Sunbird 0.2, iCal.app, and Evolution
    • Much improved printing functionality
    • Better integration of Lightning into Mozilla Thunderbird (Printing, Undo/redo, Copy/paste)
    • Support for Google Calendar (via the Google Calendar Provider extension)
    • and much more. A full list of changes that have gone into this release can be found on The Rumbling Edge weblog.

    Download

Lightning 0.5 and Sunbird 0.5 are available for Windows, Mac OS X (universal builds) and Linux in 22 different languages!

You can use the following links to download the latest release:

    Review

I have only played with this release for a couple of hours, but I am already blown away - the cleaned up GUI (Graphical User Interface) is reason enough to upgrade and the fancy printing is great too!
