One of my readers, Joseph K. asked me to get some info on a Hitachi HD 42″ plasma. Here is what he wrote:

Is the new full hd 1920×1080 42″ plasma from Hitachi on display? If so does it have speakers on the side like they’ve always done on their plasmas or are the speakers on the bottom. Thanks

Apparently, he has been having trouble getting any information from Hitachi and I know why. Hitachi does have a pre-production only, HD model on display. This is a full 1080P screen (1920×1080). The rep I spoke with said that, since these are pre-production models, the specs are not finalized but these screens will not have speakers. I asked the rep for more information on the speakers and he said that since these are “top of the line models, we assume the consumer will have a surround sound system in place.” I asked if they would be available separately and he said it’s to be determined. He also mentioned that the screens should be out later this year.

I put that 1 litter bottle there for size reference.
