A few months ago, I wrote a Windows Tip article on how to Delete Internet Explorer 7’s Temporary Internet Files Automatically When It Closes. Here is a partial tip[1] on clearing your browsing history:
- On Internet Explorer’s tool bar, click the Tools button, then click Internet Options
- In the Browser history section, click the “Settings” button
- In the dialog that opens, look for the History section (near the bottom). Set the “Days to keep pages in history” variable to 0

- Click the “OK” button in all dialog boxes.
[1] I call this a “partial tip” because the browser will remember the current day’s history, so every site you’ve visited today will be remembered. For some odd reason, setting the variable to 0 doesn’t actually mean “Don’t remember any history” like you would think it should . . . You should consider using Firefox, all of it’s options and feature make sense!
Firefox 2

yeah I’ve noticed this in IE as well.. the only problem (that I’ve had) with doing this is type of automatic cleanup.. is sometimes i actually want my history.. in those cases, its very frustrating to not know what site i was on that I really really liked the other day
I agree! I use Firefox for all of my normal browsing and Internet Explorer (with this trick) for all of my “questionable” browsing!
lol… yeah as you can tell, I’ve switched to the mighty firefox as well
I am also a firefox user. Only open IE when I am designing a new site for somebody. Needless to say, a migraine usually follows.
I know exactly what you are talking about! I wrote an article called: Internet Explorer - GRRRRR
