Friday Grooves: 311’s Grassroots

Written by Saman Sadeghi on March 9, 2007 Add comments

This album brings back so many memories! My buddy Meatballs turned me onto it all the way back in 1995 and the first time I heard it, I was hooked and I am still a huge 311 fan to this day!

To me, this album is 311’s greatest - but I am not one of those fans who think that Grassroots, Music and the Blue Album are the only 311 albums that matter. No, I honestly love every 311 album, but for different reasons - the band keeps reinventing themselves and turning out albums that have the same 311 sound with a completely different feel!

Anyway, this album has the quintessential 311 sound: hard rock, soulful reggae, amazing hip-hop rhymes and funky beats! Each track is meaningful and I can’t keep from shaking my money-maker anytime I hear any of the tracks!

The problem is that 311 is very hard to classify and, there for, review. I guess you could lump them into the generic Rock category, but that wouldn’t do them justice. I really wish I could capture the 311 sound on paper so I can share them with you all! If you have a friend you owns this album, borrow it and jam to it for a week - you’ll become an instant fan!

I’m surprised that it took so long for a 311 review ;) And no mention of the tattoo at all?

I really don’t listen to music as much as I would like. I have Gigs worth of music in Itunes but I never find the time.

I will search out 311 now and check it out. There is just so much music out there that that it’s good to hear someone so passionate about a particular artist.

There is a lot out there, and I have a ton too! I pretty much live in my iPod and I always have iTunes running while I’m on the computer, as you can see on my Music page!

Wow, I’ve just moused over the album cover. That’s an eye catching little Amazon affiliate box. It certainly gets your attention. If you had 10 on a page it might get to be too much but with only one link it works a treat.

Yeah, it’s cool but it doesn’t work right in IE (surprise right?!) and that’s why my load times are so long…

Yes the Amazon thing is pretty cool. Does that work well as far as commissions?

I think Amazon pays 6%, but I have yet to have any income from it!
