Let me start off my saying that this is the BE5TeST.M0D.EV3R!!1!11!!
Seriously though, I have been playing this Half-Life 2 mod for about a month and I am completely in love. The game retains all of the fun and excitement of Nintendo’s GoldenEye 007 and improves on it in every way.
Tell Me More!
The mods creators are utilizing HL:2’s rendering and physics engine, Source, to completely update the mutiplayer portion of the original game (check out the power of Source with this in game shot). I think the most improved aspect of the mod is the graphics. They have re-textured everything and the eye candy is amazing. Actually, I can’t say that the graphics are the best enhancement, because I thing the entire mod is a vast improvement on the original game - I say this because a lot has change in the ten years since Goldeneye 007 first came out. As gamers, we are much more sophisticated and this mod accommodates us! The maps are much improved - actually, they are modernized. They are larger and new rooms and pathways have been added, they have even made original single player levels into mutiplayer maps! They have included some of the original maps (which they call “Classic”). These maps are unaltered in size and the textures remain faithful to the original game. They are fun for a nostalgic game and really showed me how tiny some of the levels were! Check out what maps are released and in the works.

Gameplay
The feel of the mod is fantastic, it’s fast and crazy! Since this is a HL:2 mod, it uses all of the same controls - which you can remap if you wish or even us a control pad. The game just “feels” right, I have no complaints about it! I did remap the reload key - for some reason GE:S doesn’t use the same key as HL:2, but that’s not a big deal.
Beta Please!
GE:S is still a beta release, but I have had no real problems. During one game, it did lock up on me - but that was once out of a month’s worth of gameplay!
How Can I Play?!
Since GE:S is a free mod, you need to have a Steam account (it’s free) in good standing, and a Source based game installed, these include:
- Half-Life 2
- Half-Life 2 Episode One
- Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
- Counter-Strike: Source
- Day of Defeat: Source
I wrote an article about Half Life 2 Holiday 2006 Collection, which I absolutely recommend. I bought it for $50USD and it came with seven games. If that is too rich for you, you can buy Half-Life 2: Deathmatch for $10USD from Steam.
Keep an eye out for me on the servers, my username is Samanathon. Happy Hunting! ![]()
This is a great mod. Thanks for sharing. I used to love this game on Nintendo.
