I wrote an article detailing how to install How To Install Microsoft Office 2007 In Ubuntu 8.04 which seems to pretty hit and miss for a lot of users. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be able to participate in CodeWeaver’s CrossOver Linux free download program. Although this program was a one-day-only deal, I can attest that Microsoft Office 2007 works flawlessly under CrossOver Linux!
If you desperately need to run Office 12 under Ubuntu, I highly suggest you spend the $40 – you won’t be disappointed!
Thanks very much for mentioning us–we think that our support for MS Office 2007 is quite good, and getting better all the time.

Jon,
Thank you, and your team, for all of the hard work and dedication! As an end user, I truly appreciate the support that you are providing!
I really like what you guys are up too. This type of clever work and exposure! Keep up the good works guys I’ve added you guys to my personal blogroll.
I haven’t been able to install Office 2007 with crossover, after 1 sec of the installer running (before you actually get the option to install) it exits then asks to send an error report. I’ve tried using both a winXp bottle and a vista bottle both have the same results. Im using Ubuntu 8.10, Crossover 7 and Office 2007 Pro
That’s weird–I’m running Outlook 2007 day in and day out. I would check on our forums. 8.10 *has* been a bit flaky, I seem to recall, but we’re workin’ on it.
Cheers,

Why would /ANYONE/ want to install Microcrap Office on their
Linux (or even Windows/Mac) computer?
Personally, I believe that Office 2007 is more superior to any OpenOffice derivative that is currently out for release.
Yep, the fact of the matter is that Microsoft Office is good. I have tried all others and Office is just a really good product. I look forward to trying this method to install it on my Ubuntu.
Because some macros won’t work under OpenOffice, in a work environment you need to have Microsoft Office…
Exactly. Likewise, many workers in a corporate setting are *required* to use an Exchange server to get their email and calendar notices, and that, in turn, pretty much *requires* you run Outlook as well. Hence…
hello
there is a big mystery. about a month ago, i startet to work with linux. i installed ubuntu 8.10 , because it has a very common support.
because i dont believe in openoffice (it is very dubious to me and i cant work with it), the first thing i did, was installing wine. i didn’t understand anything about linux. but i managet to run the setup.exe, written on the disc(it is a Office07-Enterprise-disc for WindowsXP)…
it directly began to install, didn’t ask any questions (i can’t remember any apart from the licence), and about 30min later, there was a perfect microsoft office. it was even faster than Openoffice (when i startet it together).
now, i had to reinstall ubuntu on a new hard-disc. and i had no chance to install it again. there was an error, bevore beginning the install itself. maybe i could go into the old system and look what there is spezial. but what should i look for? i can’t remember changing any settings in the wine configuration.
i even have almost no orientation in linux…
MS office 2007 is the best office suite available. I was using open office from last 3 years but once looking at office 2007 , I believe I missed a lot.
Here is the guide to install Office 2007 flawlessly

Nice post, keep up with this interesting work.
Good to know that Install Microsoft Office 2007 in Ubuntu 8.10 is being covered also in this web site, thanks for taking time to discuss this.
Good job !
Where do you get a copy of crossover linux? I am new to Ubuntu and I need some help. This seems like great information, but unfortunately I don’t know where to start
I would prefere OpenOffice instead of installing Office on Ubuntu …
I would prefere OpenOffice…
This seems to be great information, but at the same time I have to repeat the last few comments. If you are using Ubuntu, why not just use OpenOffice? I use OpenOffice in windows. It just seems to be better laid out software. I just can’t figure out any reason you would ever use Microsoft Office in Ubuntu.
It’s great that Microsoft Office 2007 works well in Linux with no crashes. People knock Windows a lot, especially Mac and Linux heads but let’s be frank they have made some great software. Combining Windows usability with open source Linux is a win win situation as far as I’m concerned.
I found your website perfect for my needs. It contains wonderful and helpful posts. I have read most of them and got a lot from them.
Wow, I wish I had found this article two months ago. I had to completely delete everything off my mom’s computer and then purchase windows 7, then install everything before I could get Microsoft office on her computer.
Very useful, thanks for sharing keep on going another one.You have gained a new reader. Thanks for the info.
