Microsoft just made the official release of Internet Explorer 8 available to the public. This new version boasts new features and, best of all, passes the Acid2 Browser Compatibility Test! This is the first version of IE to pass this test!
What is The Acid2 Browser Compatibility Test?
The Acid2 test is a Web page which tests a browsers ability to follow Web standards. If the browser passes, the page renders with the message “Hello World! and a smiley face”
As any developer will tell you, having a standards compliant browser is a dream! Long have we had to muck up our pristine code to write ugly hacks to support non-compliant browsers such as IE6. Visiting a site with non-compliant browser means that you probably wont see the site as the designer intend. The browser will misinterpret (if render at all) the code – which is completely infuriating as a designer!!
Up until now every major browser, with the exception of Microsoft browsers, were standard complaint.

You’ve omitted a screen from Opera, which had passed ACID 2 earlier than FF and is still more popular than Safari.

It’s a good thing to know about this compatibility test because I am not so familiar with this thing. I just frequently update my system without caring for whats new and what has been changed.

Internet Explorer 8 have been my most used browser this year, it is definitely stable and fast loading too. ‘
After Microsoft’s tremendous failures in the past, it will take me a long time to switch back to IE. Trust takes a long time to rebuild. I still don’t think that they are near Firefox. I’ll wait until IE57 to give it another chance

Passing Acid2 is quite an accomplishment. Few browsers today can do it. The chosen few include Konqueror 3.5, Opera 9, Firefox 3 Beta 1 and Safari.
Wow, I didnt think it would pass the Acid2 test. I hope they will make a race back, seeing as Microsoft is loosing control over the market.
