Well, that didn’t take long: Within hours of it’s release, I was able to find two different sites where the iPhone was taken apart - and this is in addition to the iPhone eBay auctions that Mr. Gary Lee covered!
Think Secret
For those who don’t know, Think Secret is the best Apple rumor site on the net, mainly because they are almost always right!
Unfortunately, they broke the logic board when trying to take the iPhone apart!
Click the below image to check out their gallery.
iFix It
iFix It had a live, stream of the disassembly, which I thought was really cool! I mirrored the page as it looked like at 11:45pm last night. Click the below image to see the mirror and click here to see their live site.
Thoughts
I expected to see the eBay options but I didn’t expect this! Those poor iPhones - and what about the geeks that could of had them! Some where out there, there are millions of geeks crying after they saw these pictures!
I must say that I was kind of impressed by the $1,000,000 iPhone eBay Auction!

I wonder how warranty is going to work on these phones?
Even if they could get warranty, I think Apples original plan was the same as the iPod plan: Customer ships to them direct and Apple decides if they will replace or repair or not. The store cannot do instore exchange. This is stupid because it’s not an MP3 player that you can do without for a week or two. It’s a phone that people need for communication on a daily basis. Hopefully the providers step up and provide a loaner program, but I don’t know how they are going to do that when there is no phone in collateral since Apple on deals with the customer direct.
The stores would take all the risk and deal with the irate customers while Apple would sit behind their desks and reap all the benefits. Not to mention, the word is the iPhone has a 40% mark up. Hardly sounds fair!
When I first bought my iPod (60GB Video), I had a issue where the iPod crashed. I took it to the Genius Bar, after they reviewed it, they replaced it with no questions asked - I didn’t have to ship it to Apple! I realize that this case wouldn’t apply to all, especially if you took the iPhone back in 30+ pieces!
Speaking of markups, did you know there is a $10,000 markup on Corvettes? I have a buddy who is a car dealer….
You mean on the new sale price??? Whats the waiting list? (not that Im gonna get one shipped over here!)
Supply and Demand Guys . . . that’s how they can get away with all this!
I think that assumes that Genius Bars exist where you are. I’ve only heard of these in the US. Most retailers here are powerless when it comes to over the counter exchange unless it is within their individual store exchange/return policy period. This also means that you’re out of luck if your unit breaks down outside of it. Apple also doesn’t do much to help retailers out that have done the right thing and have helped the customer. iPods tend to sit around in lockups till someone gets around to dealing with the defectives because it’s a pain.
Ah, I didn’t realize that the Apple stores in Canada don’t have Genius Bars…
Only Apple stores have them, none of the authorized retailers (Best Buy, Fry’s, etc) are allowed to have them.
Do we know who manufactures this for Apple and where? I cannot find any info on it.
Wow. If I had an iPhone, I wouldn’t mess with it. It’s always nice to see the insides of an iPhone though. But I wonder how the warranty is going to work…
I wouldn’t mess with it either - there is no way I would pay that much money just to tear it apart, but these are companies who are gaining a lot of traffic from doing that.
What a nice income source… dissecting iPhones. I’m sure they earn more than an iPhone’s worth.
There are worse ways to earn a living Im sure, and if you can get it back together again you probably get to keep the toys
I wonder the moment that i will have this phone.
What a waste of a phone breaking it like that!
Realy expansive toy to damage like this.
