iPod Vending Machine

I saw this iPod store at the Dallas airport recently and I had to share it - it’s literally an iPod vending machine

As you can see, the iPod Store has just about everything that is iPod related, including Video iPods, iPod Nanos, headphones, Nike+ kits, sound docks and so much more! It has everything but music. My question is, why would you buy this in an airport - are there really that many impulse buyers that would purchase one right before they get on a plane?

Video

Here is a video of the user interface. I choose to “purchase” a 60GD Video iPod, and it only took a few taps to buy it! You could checkout the specs and read more information - it was really slick!

Sorry for the poor video quality….

About

This store is actually a Zoom shop, I saw another one in Atlanta - this one is actually four sided and you can buy all flavors of iPods, satellite radios, DVD’s, noise canceling headphones, Gameboys, wireless routers & network cards and much, much more!

what the…? that’s crazy. if they could put these in the middle of the mall and replace the annoying keosks with the guys yelling “hey girl, wanna phone?” then i would see how they could be very useful :)

I’m thinking exactly the same, I can’t really imagine that many people will buy expensive products like iPods at an airport.

Think about what’s involved in buying one - you’d have to have some of your music in digital format & already on your laptop and have enough time on your layover to install iTunes and transfer your music!

I would think a last minute gift for whoever you’re visiting at the other end of the plane ride. Unless you’re just traveling on business, in which case it really wouldn’t make sense.

Strangely, there is an Apple vending machine like the one above in a Macy’s department store in a mall near my home. The store happens to be around 100 feet from an Apple store!

That is very interesting…I thought that vending machines are only for food and toys… but Ipod is a toy but a bit expensive.

heh. Yea, I saw that Ipod/expensive tech machine at DFW, and was blown away by it. Who’d have thought you could spend 300 on a vending machine?

They have one of these at the Safeway near my house in Denver. I just assumed that, because of that rather normal place, they must be everywhere.

I guess this is just a marketing strategy.. they want to make people think “Wow.. ipod is everywhere.. it must be a great product!”
