Well, it’s finally happened: People are too lazy to get drunk. John Cornwall has created the Beer Launching Fridge that can launch a 12 ounce can 13 feet.
From John’s site:
Have you ever gotten up off the couch to get a beer for the umpteenth time and thought, “What if instead of ME going to get the BEER, the BEER came to ME???” Well, that was how I first conceived of the beer launching fridge. About 3 months and several hundred dollars later I have a fully automated, remote controlled, catapulting, man-pit approved, beer launching mini-fridge. It holds 10 beers in its magazine with 14 more in reserve to store a full case. It is controlled by a keyless entry system. Pressing unlock will start the catapult rotating and when it is aiming at your target, pressing unlock again will stop it. Then the lock button can be pressed to launch a beer in the selected direction.
John estimates the fridge cost his $2500 to build, and seems willing to build them for the public - just send him an email with the price you’re willing to pay and he’ll consider it!
The Video
John seems to be a pretty handy guy, he has several other robotic devices on his Project’s Page.
Looks like the video isn’t working… I don’t think pictures do this fridge justice!
That’s weird, it was working two days ago! It’s fixed now!
Yes video works now.
I wouldn’t open a beer that’s been launched 10 feet without worrying about it fizzing out all over the sofa!
Got sounds but can’t see anything except for the star in the lower right hand corner.
I’ve seen video of this fridge. It’s cool. Though with a price tag of $2500 I’m sure with the right contacts he can lower the price of the fridge to something a bit more.. affordable.
I agree, its very nice and all but I don’t see how it costs $2500!
I guess, if you factor in the cost of the fridge, having the parts machined at a shop and all of the beer….
I mean with $2500, I can hire someone to fetch my beer for a couple months!
Oh believe me, I won’t drop $2,500 - I think this thing is pretty pointless
Who is just too lazy to fetch another drink from the fridge? Oh c’mon!
do you think the beer is all shooken up after the throw?
Maybe a little, I think it would be ok to open!
If it wasn’t, you could “order” your beer a few minutes before you finish the one you’re currently drinking!
I don’t know.. how many time do you think they had to film this before they got it right in that guys hand?
how many time do you think it hit him in the head
Like a lot of things on the Internet, this is simply created for the sake of it. Which is cool. Why not. But don’t look for any practical value in something like this.
I like the total ‘over the top-ness’ of it all.
I do love hackers and moders because the hack everyday items - like this!
Haha…oh the laziness…it’s amazing how much work someone would go to to create this, just so that they didn’t have to get up during a hockey game, or whatever they may be watching…
Really, you could just park that mini fridge next the couch!! But that’s not as “cool” I guess.
It’s all about mass production . . . once there are more orders out there, the price will drop to at most 100 bucks!!! they need to make a attachment for coolers!
Would you believe that
http://www.beerlaunchingfridge.com/
is already bought and parked. That’s optimistic for sure.
He should apply for a patent for that thing.
It would be great for home users like us.
Homer Simpson will be very happy to get this fridge!
