Right before I went to bed last night, I wrote a quick little article on the benefits of networking yourself and when I got up this morning, my WordPress Dashboard showed a ton of incoming links!! Most of them were from John Chow Dot Com because I reached the number ten spot in his Top Commentators - which is displayed on every one of his pages!!! That means the Technorati spiders crawled his whole site and added a ton of inbound links to me!!
There are links from some other sites too, but we all know that the higher rank of the referring site, the more the link is worth!
Last Night’s Stats

My rank was 159,432! I had 29 links from 25 blogs.
This Morning’s Stats

My rank now is 73,706 with 271 links from 51 blogs!
For some reason, Technorati is listing links from myself and separating links from John’s as separate sites. That accounts for the dramatic jump in linking blogs.
I guess I can set my sights on that 50,000 rank now!! Saman= ![]()
Definitely pays off. Especially for new blogs that don’t yet have page rank and a lot of history.
I find that it won’t bring as much readers in the short run as it will in the long run, from the increase in SERPs.
Honestly, I am kind of using the rank to gauge success - although I know there is much more to success then my rank on Technorati, but it does help validate what I’m doing here on the ‘ol net!
That’s exactly how i feel. Now I know that my readers are number 1, my content is number 1.10 and my ranking is my number 1.20. Needless to say, they are all important things I keep in mind when I’m blogging.
Um, that’s a little too much math for me…
I hear you. It’s always nice to see your rank increase, anywhere !
Hmmm…i check my technorati rank too, but I wouldn’t place to much trust in its accuracy. Some blogs have link networks and although their blog may not be all that popular, their technorati rank is fairly high.
Well, I know that mine is “popular” either - not yet anyway, but I would imagine a blog with a fairly high Technorati rank would do better then one far below it!
That is really what I am aiming for. If I have a high rank, then more people would visit.
Hmmm…true. It’s more about the image then? Trying to fool people into thinking you’re popular.
lol…;)
Honestly it’s more about writing, learning - and paying for diapers!!
hahaha…don’t you love the perks of being on that top commentator board. It’s going to be a lot harder to be on there I think, but you’re doing a great job on getting your name out there…keep it up!
Thanks Jane,
At first, I was striving for quantity
- but now I’m going for comment quality on John’s site, and your’s too!
This method works great - but this is what spammers try to do - creating quality comments if often not what people strive for; it’s similar to the idea behind forums - crap posts just to be number 1.
Agreed, that’s why I try to distinguish myself with quality comments. Hopefully it will bring visitors back to my site!
It’s nice to see the Technorati rank drop like that huh?
My previous domain was like 65,000 but since I moved to my new domain (www.tyleringram.com) my rank started at 2,700,00 and now its back down to somewhere in the 1 millions a couple days later.
That’s nice that your rank is rising! Too bad you had to start over though!
My rank has really jumped as well, going from around 80,000 to now under 29,000 and continuing to get better.
I’ve noticed that it is now listing links from my own site as well. I’m not sure if they made a change that resulted in counting all of my own links or if they are just putting a value on the deep linking within your own site.
Either way, I will take the bump in ranking.
I noticed that same thing as well as multiple links from the same pages from John’s site….
Weird, it boosts numbers but the boost is artificial - and if it’s happening to us, I would imagine it’s happening to everyone else too!
MNC the deep links do help it seems. I also we are all experiencing this great jump together.
Congrats Saman. Your hardwork paid off. You have just crossed the 50,000 mark! It was 49,606 an hour ago!
NICE!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the heads-up!
Now 25,000! At this rate you will be in the top 100 by Friday.
Hmm… John Chow really makes magic!
I started off with a review of his site.
Trying out commenting also.
