I know that I’ve been resistant to the entire social networking thing (except for Digg, Flickr, StumpleUpon, Technorati, MyBlogLog – ok, maybe not
) but after reading Ed Lau’s post “To Facebook or not to Facebook?“, I decided to join Facebook!
If you’re a user, you can view my Facebook profile.
My main motivation was to increase readership – With 93.8 million blogs in the blogospehere, it’s getting harder and harder to reach new readers, so I decided to use Facebook as a networking tool (Michael Kwan wrote how to link your blog to your Facebook account). That, and I’ve found that a lot of my family uses it so I can keep in touch with them too.
Thoughts
I’ve only had my account for two days but I am pretty impressed with the use of AJAX on Facebook, actually, this site really uses AJAX to it’s fullest! The other cool thing about it is how many great bloggers are using it! We all love the communities that we’ve built around our blogs, and Facebook can help make them a little more personal!
So, if you’re a facebook user, add me as your friend and I’ll add you back. Also, make sure to join the Samanathon.com group!
May be it’s time I should get on the social bookmarking train.
Lol. It gets quite addicting actually. I never really liked social networking sites like Nexopia and MySpace. I sign up for them and never log back in after the first week. I joined Facebook a few months ago and I’m still on it. It’s really weird how everyone is on it. I’ve personally managed to convince a few friends to sign up for it too ^_^ and now they’re stuck on it
Well maybe you guys wont since it’s mostly invaded by high school students like me
even though it was made for college/university students primarily. So you might actually be able to resist it.
Added you though
And don’t mind the “A better profile picture” picture… lol… it’s for “Compare People”, one of the applications.
That’s what I first heard about it – that it was for people in school, but it’s quickly moving into the corporate world too!
I’ve just added you
I already have a Facebook account for quite a while but haven’t really done much with it. Few people I know actually use Facebook, it’s not so popular in my country.
Hi Saman I too joined Orkut sometime before due to immense peer pressure.
But after a few days I actually deleted your account . I think all these social networking sites are crap
That’s what I always thought, but I’m really getting into Facebook!
that’s what i always thought too. I’ve joined a bunch of them only to stop using it after the first week. But somehow Facebook seems different. I even managed to get a couple friends who rarely (like once a month) use their computers to join it and now they’re quite active in it.
and also I thought Orkut was mostly populated by a certain nationality or something? Like one of those city-wide or nation-wide social networking sites, rather than international..
Mmmm…and I thought I had something to do with getting you to join. Good to see you there anyway.
BTW, Facebook is not crap.
If you read anything about it, you will know it is no “Orkut”, which by the way is crap.
The one thing that I’ve though is that Facebook is like MySpace for adults…
Hey Saman, I just finished a post not even 15 minutes ago about Facebook. Facebook does seem to be here to stay, and I am sure ways of using it for the purposes of business are only beginning to develop.
Oh, I added you in all the other networks that you have listed as well.
i will have to join facebook now
I’ve reconnected with some great people from Facebook, so I can’t knock it. Though if you get all the applications that you are invited to add to your profile, your page will be as bloated as those fat ass pimped out myspace pages you wanted to get away from!!
well at least it’s not as laggy as myspace where it seems the more loading time your page takes, the better it is
but yeah… just add the applications you’ll actually use… lol
Very true, I have to fight the instinct to add every one that I see!
Thanks for the link, but my name is spelled Michael, not Micheal.
It’s fixed!
I was definitely down with facebook in the beginning. You really do get connected with a load of humans that you had completely forgotten about. That is actually one of the things I can’t stand about it. I am quite happy to be out of high school, and I have been for quite a while. Now I have hundreds of people that I never liked (but was friendly to) adding me and trying to turn me into zombies, vampires, dragons, OMLETS!!! Everything. I prefer myspace, although I do not enjoy either.
