Yes, every OS has patches, but if you look at the number of patches that MS has - it is awful. Plus some of the "patches" force us to go to a new product (IE7). Even after one downloads the "OS7 blocker", it did not work forever.

I use both MS and Mac, and it seems like Mac has less hastles. Oh, and if I was a gear-head, I have heard that Linux can run just fine on old hardware - seems to be a more efficient OS.

Ha ha. I knew you would say this too. Somehow you miss my point. MS has trained us so well to just accept whatever they toss out there, as the latest and the greatest.

I think people will eventually wise up. That is why I am such a proponent of open source, which I think is not only the future, but very revealing as to the possibilities.

As Gates has reiterated on many occasions, he is only interested in 500 customers (The Fortune 500).

As for the hackers, they only target MS because they're popular - and they MS must be doing something right if they have largest market share!

As for Vista, I can personally say that it feels more like a Service Pack for XP then a separate OS - and I see no reason to upgrade and, if I was buying a new computer, I might think about getting XP on it and not Vista as it's such a resource hog...

I knew that you were going to come back with this reasoning. Actually, I figured you would blame it on all the hackers and attackers to MS.

The next question would then be why interest and purchase of Vista is down, as people have learned to wait at least for the first few updates, before investing in a less than steller product introduction.

(Par for the course, and totally expected by the masses I might add)

This step is a necessary evil if you use windows as an OS. Makes you wonder about service packs, all the patches and updates.

Why can't they get it right the first time?

If you shutdown your computer every night then you don't really need all of these tips, but you could use:

Saman,

Interesting information! Would you say that this should be done if you reguarly shut down your computer? I make it a point to let my desktop "rest" every night and seems to remain at fast processing speed.
