I spent a few hours last night backup my machine and creating several partitions, one for each major operation system (except Mac’s). I now have XP and Vista running and should have Ubuntu installed tonight! I also created a fourth for my Ghost image.
What’s New Pussycat?
So, Vista really isn’t the big, bad OS that I originally thought it was (I’m still not trilled about the possibility of DRM). I’ve only really been running it for about two hours now, but I am happy with what I see: there are a lot of improvements that will affect the average Joe.
As a power user, I haven’t really dove deep enough to give you a real detail opinion. I must say that I am enjoying the eye candy though - Vista’s Aero [1] interface is really pretty! I always said that I didn’t care about the eye candy, that I just want the OS to work and that’s why I was sticking with XP, but after using the machine for a little while, I am really impressed! It’s a huge improvement over XP’s Luna.
The Time Has Come
Now that I have things running, it’s time to start tearing it apart! I want to see how I can hack and mod this puppy!
Stay tuned sports fans!
About Face
I have always said that I will not install Vista as my primary OS but I have done just that! I still have XP installed but I have taken the time to install all of my applications and copied all of my files onto my Vista install. I thought that, if I’m going to really review Vista, then I have to be on it all of the time. Luckily, I haven’t really had a compatibility issues yet - there where a few items that needed driver updates but Vista informed me there was a problem and actually pointed me to where I could resolve the issues - wow, it’s like the future . . .
[1] Aero is a backronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective and Open
It’s nice to see some positive press about Vista for a change
yeah.. but i still won’t take the leap.. I think I’m gonna wait to see what comes out of SP1 :green:
That’s what I always said…
The eye candy alone isn’t worth the cost of the upgrade, but you’re buying a new PC, you might as well go for it!
Yeah, I think most of the issues arise when gaming. Is it as resource hungry as it’s made out to be?
I haven’t heard about any gaming issues - I know that it supports DirectX10 and XP won’t…
As for it being resource hungry, Areo does seem to use a lot of RAM!
………………………………..waitiing for the review and hacks…
What are the system specs for the machine running Vista?
The machine is a:
I really like Vista as it runs my development tools much better and faster. I’m sold. I do have to say, not sure there is a need to upgrade, but new machines are a must.
Hope you returned the “fav” for me…I need the juice.
Hey Saman…just noticed you took another chunk out of your Alexa rank. Way to go.
Thanks for taking the Vista challenge. I will let you review it before I would ever consider it.
i seriously can’t wait for the hacks!
I’m not a big fan of Vista but I’m giving it a shot in my new box. I’ve been running it for a few months on my laptop and it seems rather useless.
Get a mac!
I’m neither rich or trendy enough!
maybe you can make a post on macs and windows.
Vista is by far the best Windows OS launched as of yet. I love the way it installs almost automatically; without prompting for the user to enter stuff before it can move to next steps. Neat and clean.
I am waiting for you to share the hacks as you find it!
Also wanted to add: It has amazing graphics - I know Apple had similar or better graphics years back - but could not fall in love with Apple. People complain about Vista that it is such a memory (RAM) hog - but if you want faster and richer computer - having 1 GB RAM stick shouldn’t be a pain…and memory is becoming cheaper every day!
