    Hi,

    I found this today:
83 wordpress themes you (probably) won’t have seen, kind of puts my theme to shame! Might have to change it again grrrrr!!!

Thanks for that post, I actually came across Sven’s post a while ago but I’m glad you commented about so others can check it out too!

And there’s nothing wrong with your theme - it’s #54 on that list and by the same designer that made my current theme!

:) I changed it not half an hour ago! Will continue playing and changing them I think! :-)

Quite fancy a 4 column theme, but never found one to suit and concerned about how they might look on smaller monitors!

You have to pay to change your website’s layout in Wordpress right?

If you do, I’ll have to stick with Blogger. Sadly I don’t have a credit card lol :P I’m probably gonna have to wait until I get the University sponsored job to get a steady source of income :( so no online purchases for at least another year… lol

Wordpress looks like it has a lot more features and flexibility too…

Not at all! 99.5% of WordPress themes are free! There are some designers that you can pay to design you a custom them, but only if you want to!

WordPress is incredibly flexible - I wouldn’t use another platform.

how do you put up your own theme? or how do you modify one of the default themes?

I go to “Edit CSS” and it says you have to purchase some sort of upgrade to edit it.

    For WordPress?

Is this for a WordPress hosted blog or a WordPress blog on your own host?

Looks that way, I found this on the WordPress FAQ:

You cannot edit any template directly.

If you purchase the CSS Editing upgrade you can style any theme and the Sandbox theme allows a great deal of flexibility. You can also use any of the themes produced by others for the Sandbox theme.

With the CSS Editing upgrade you can also alter the styling of any existing theme. So if you want the color orange instead of blue in the Contempt theme (for instance) you can do that.

You should consider getting a host and installing WordPress there - there are so many options that you can make your blog look like and do whatever you want! I suggest 1 And 1, I have four sites with them and am totally happy!

That 1 on 1 is a nice find. So is the CSS upgrade.

I an just getting started with WP and hope I don’t get too sidetracked with templates and graphics…which I think it seems could easily happen.

It’s not too bad, find the right theme is important - so is customizing it: there are nine million blogs out there, what can you change to make yours stand out from the hundreds that are using your theme?!

Funny you should post this now, as I am just starting a new blog using WP and having a problem with themes. Do you know if there are any hacks for themes that do not support plugins?

I will send you a more detailed email as suggested in your post, but thought this may be a common problem and a worthwhile comment for all.

Yeah, send me that email. There shouldn’t be a theme that doesn’t support plugins - they’re separate things!
