Depending on the amount of comments your WordPress blog gets, you might want to think about Selection Targeting: The AdSense Googlebot will index everything on your site and tailor ads that it thinks are relative. If a couple of commentators submit comments like:
- I made a bunch of money from this!
- I just bought a house!
- Did anyone see American Idol last night?!?!
Google will assume that this is content on your site.
On a tech site like mine, this would not be good!! The fix is pretty easy, Google provides code that tells the bots not to index whatever is in between the code’s start and end tags!
Open your theme’s single.php file and and wrap the call to the comment template like so:
-
<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>
-
<?php comments_template(); ?>
-
<!– google_ad_section_end –>
Good use of the ignore function!
Now the trick is to get some comments on my site….
Just takes time and visitors.
And robots.
And lube.
Depends on which door they use I guess.
Hey Saman, do you know how do effect google’s indexing?.. for example google’s blog search seems to only index my comments ?.. any thoughts anyone?
Are we still talking about comments?
If there is an ‘ignore’ function…. Is there a ‘concentrate’ or something like that?
Yep, just leave out the ignore section in the first tag:
< !– google_ad_section_start –>STUFF YOU WANT TO GOOGLE TO INDEX
< !– google_ad_section_end –>
Cool! Thanks. I’ll try putting that in some places….
Great Tip Saman! I know there are some parts of my blog that I don’t want adsense to pick up.
I’ve tried doing this but I can’t figure out anything that requires me to input anything to the single.php file cuz my theme doesn’t have one.
Your theme doesn’t have a single.php file??!?!
It must! If not, you need to locate how single pages are generated and wrap the tags there…
Yeah… me=computer illeterate so no can do. But I’m changing the theme cuz I don’t like how messy mine is right now and I’ll make sure the one I pick has the single.php file. I’ve noticed a lot of themes don’t have it… at least not the ones I’ve d/l.
Totally unrelated, but I am still in love with your random characters introducing the comments! Great idea! is this a plugin or something you do on your end?
It’s not a plugin, it’s some PHP that my buddy Bobs wrote for me!
I realized that the Related Post plugin is very popular and I never even notice it on other blogs! I thought I needed to attract attention to mine!
Don’t give me all the credit – I just helped you a little bit with the code. You came up with the idea and put it all together. I appreciate the mention though
You’re right!
Saman=Best
Today was the first time I saw something other than Frog Mario. Super cute!! Do you have him in the Stone form?
I do have the Tanooki Mario, but don’t have him changing into stone – I tried it, but I didn’t look to good!
Hmmm…well, I know that when they’re on topic, getting comments indexed is beneficial. Could you do this with just…some…comments?
I really don’t know how you would do that, I’m sure there is a way but I don’t know enough PHP!
I made so much money off of this!
You Ass!
IE6.0
– no wonder your angry!
I’m too drunk to respond!
Well I see you are somewhat using your sense now that it has been pointed out. Still though, Browsing Drunk is No Excuse! If you are too drunk to browse with a good Browser, than you shouldn’t be browsing at all! I will not always be there to point you in the right direction. Do I need to get Saman to take away your mouse?
Knowing the AngryNetworker, that mouse is firmly shoved up is ass! I’m not touching it!
Wow, he takes browsing the web to a whole new level than….a very scare level
Did anyone see american idol last night?
hi! i am participating in doshdosh’ technorati favorites experiment. i just fav’d you. hope you fave me too. i’m at http://www.anitokid.blogspot.com
Thanks! I got you back!
Can you do this (prevent indexing) on Blogger with this code, or just WordPress only.
You can use the code on any website, regardless of the platform!
I actually removed the AdSense ads on my blog (kept the referrals)… I found it doesn’t make as much money anymore after I got my first $100… I don’t know why it just drastically slowed down…
Great post.i have read some other good idae about easy Google money kit,Google profit kit,Google fortune,Google Biz kit.if you have interesting you can read some of them from Google money kit Google money ki
