Depending on the amount of comments your WordPress blog gets, you might want to think about Selection Targeting: The AdSense Googlebot will index everything on your site and tailor ads that it thinks are relative. If a couple of commentators submit comments like:

  • I made a bunch of money from this!
  • I just bought a house!
  • Did anyone see American Idol last night?!?!

Google will assume that this is content on your site. :shock: On a tech site like mine, this would not be good!! The fix is pretty easy, Google provides code that tells the bots not to index whatever is in between the code’s start and end tags!

Open your theme’s single.php file and and wrap the call to the comment template like so:

  1. <!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>
  2. <?php comments_template(); ?>
  3. <!– google_ad_section_end –>
